Dumbing Down

I have a new pet peeves.

It is the people who are improperly using the abbreviation “Carb” as a unit of measurement.

When has Americans became so stupid that they must have science dumbed down to improperly used language.  I can understand someone using analogies or equating one process to another for sakes of illustration.  Bastardizing the English language just to sell a product to me is ludcacris.  Carbs is plural abbreviation of the word “Carbohydrate” which is a category of organic compounds that contain Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen.  Carbohydrates are not a unit of measurement, never have been.

What is also interesting is that apparently Atkins is perpetuating this bastardization of the proper use of the word “Carbohydrate”.  How can anyone take serious a group of people who cannot properly use such a simple term.  Is it that hard to explain the concept of mass or weight and the unit the gram? You have so many grams of carbohydrates not so many carbs.  I wager that this horrendous birth of ignorance would go noticed in any well taught nutrition course, or chemistry class aswell.

I can only imagine the look that a college professor would give if someone said “okay professor I have 75 carbs in this beaker.”

Or if during any nutritional paper one wrote “Today I consumed 35 carbs”.

People need to educate themselves properly to understand something and not simply perpetuate ignorance.

In a nutshell, people are so ignorant of science and nutrition that they actually have to create a new unit of measurement when their already exists one thats been used for ages.  Invent “Carbs” as a unit of measurement when their already exists “grams” on every nutritional label.  Stupidity again reinventing the wheel.
