Things Ticking Me Off!
This week a few things have been brought to my attention which has really pissed me off.
First was an article I saw on Cumberland University kicking someone out of the university for being gay.

Second was an article I saw on Baylor University threatening suspension for any of their students who pose for playboy.

Third is this Immigrant March scheduled for tomorrow.

I personally don’t care to much if a college requires it’s students to wear mayonaise as deoderant, it’s their business. But if that school is accepting Federal/State funds (aka my tax money), I expect them to abide by the same standards that US Businesses must, that being a policy of non-discrimination. I personally think that if Baylor or Cumberland University want to discriminate then let them do so without federal financial aid and tax payer dollars.
As for immigration issues, I think I am very personally affected on this issue as my wife is an immigrant who recently has received her Lawful Permanent Resident status after over two years of waiting. I think that if me and my wife had to go the legal route then so should everyone else. It is not fair that we paid our dues, and others can simply enter illegally and be on par with those who went the legal route. As for the march their reasoning for the march is to show the importance of immigrants by having them march and avoid spending. The fly in that ointment is that quite a few of the people marching, probably the majority, will not themselves be immigrants. I personally oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants, I do propse that they are deported and let them proceed to immigrate in a legal manner.

That’s exactly how my dad’s boyfriend — who’s a Russian immigrant — feels. The strange thing is, regarding illegal immigration — I actually saw a bit on the news where an illegal immigrant was like, “it’s not fair for people to treat us differently, it’s not like we’re criminals!” At which point I said to the television, to the great amusement of Amy, “well yeah, you are! Thus why it’s termed an ILLEGAL immigrant!”
MADNESS.
April 30th, 2006 at 1:34 pmWhen we traveled through Texas a while back, US Border Patrol stopped the greyhound twice and went through looking for illegal immigrants and on the first stopping removed two individuals for further scrutinizing. The interesting thing is that we were stopped pretty deep inside, not just the border area.
I think it’s mostly in California that illegal immigrants forget that they are Illegal. I saw a piece on CNN a week or so ago about a City of Los Angeles employment service which aims to link employers to day laborers, this employment service deliberately turns a blind eye to illegal immigrant workers, by not asking to see any documentation etc. Is it me or is California really not doing as much as they could to help shore up it’s borders and discourage illegal immigration?
