My wife likes to compete in photography contests on a website called FotoFight. Well she not only won in a photo competition, but also set the highest vote in the history of the site.

The winning photo is entitled “Cat Out of the Bag”

I have think that to win a photography contest one should think about the following three elements:

1.) The Subject – I think people like photos to be pretty just like they like food to be pretty. AKA the cuteness/beauty factor.
2.) Photographic Skill – I think people will judge how well you capture the subject or how well you display control over the camera. AKA finesse.
3.) Cleverness – Involving something like a cliché term reinterpreted or made literal, puns, etc. AKA mind candy.

I think this photo scored well because, 1.) it’s a beautiful kitten, looking all cute and adorable, hard to give marks against something that damn cute, 2.) The photography captures the moment accurately and clearly, capturing the attention without unwanted distraction. 3.) I think the title of the piece really gives some kind of whimsical satiety.

I am quite proud of ya
