Trip to Washington DC
Well yesterday my wife at college im’d me and asked if I wanted to go to Washington DC on Thursday (tomorrow). We will be attending the ARC’s (Appalachian Regional Comission) “The Apalachian Teaching Project 2006”, where some students from her college will present their research on “Strenghtening Community Assets to Shape a Positive Future for Appalachia” through the Consortium of Appalachian Colleges and Universities. This is a two day event, but we will be in Washington for four days.
I have laundry done, and have erased 3gig of memory cards for the camera, along with recharging batteries, now on to charging the batteries for the flash.
Any suggestions on where to go and what to see within Washington DC? I an open to any and all suggestions 🙂
My brother will house sit while away.
Visit at least one Smithsonian museum, and/or the National Gallery! They’re free and fascinating. I like the Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum (particularly for its geology section. They have samples of every rock, mineral, crystal, metal, etc. you can imagine!)
There’s a nice, pricey-but-cozy French restaurant in Georgetown called La Chaumiere. I went there twice and enjoyed the food enormously.
If you’re going to be going outside the city proper, there’s a Scottish pub in…Wheaton, I think. Wheaton, MD. It’s called The Royal Mile. Their single malt selection is beyond incredible. IF they are serving crab cakes, get them! They’re amazing. Alas, I haven’t been thrilled with the other food I’ve eaten there for the most part. But the scotch is worth a trip.
I don’t know if he reads your LJ, but you could also ask directly since he knows the area very well.
