Trip to Washington DC.
Well, I’m baaaack!
First of all we left Thursday (November 30th 2006), the trip to Washington DC took around 10 hrs.
We stayed in the George Washington Marriot which was undergoing some construction work. It was an alright hotel, not so many perks besides it being in a good location.
We arrived in Washington DC around 5:30pm and went out for dinner.
The first day of conferences was held at the George Washington Marriot which provided our Breakfast and Lunch, not to shabby.
For Dinner:
The BRICKSKELLER
Dining House and Down Home Saloon
1523 22nd St, NW
- Hamburger/Fries & Guinness Draught Stout
The first day of conferences were held at the George Washington Marriot and we had a pretty good assortment of pastries and drinks for breakfast, along with a great lunch.
We went out later that evening for Dinner at:
Taj of India
Fine Indian Food
2809 M Street, NW, Georgetown
They were seven of us and we each bought a different plate and shared. So I sampled:
- Curried Mixed Vegetables
- Garlic Naan
- Lamb Chops
- Curried Lamb
- Madras Curried Shrimp
- Saag Paneer
- Some Eggplant Dish
- Chicken Tikka
- Fried Chickpea (not falafels)
- Vegetable Samosas
- Roti
- Papadams
- Lhassa
The second day of conferences were held at the Fairmont hotel, and we had a large assortment of pastries for breakfast.
For lunch we ate at:
George’s King of Falafels
1205 28th St NW
Me and Elli shared a Vegetable Lovers Plate which consisted of:
- two felafels
- tabouleh
- baba ghanoush
- turneb
- hummus
- olives
- flat bread
- yoghurt dip
- guava drink
- yoghurt drink.
The food was superb, I loved the tabouleh as it was not dry, quite flavourful and fresh with a touch of mint.
We then headed to the Museum of Natural History, Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, White House, and China Town.
The day earlier on one of our long exploratory walks we came across this gem of a restaurant which had the lovely aroma of Nag Champa flowing out it’s doors, after a peek or two in the restaurant’s windows we noticed a lovely asian lady who spoke highly of the restaurant. We would have beaten ourselves had we not tried this restaurant.
For Dinner we ate at:
Thai Kingdom
2021 K Street NW
- Spring Rolls – Crispy vegetarian spring rolls with sweet sauce topped peanuts (Appetizer)
- Mussamun Curry Jae – Indian influenced curry with crispy tofu, potatoes, and onions (Entree)
- Khao Niew Mamaung – Fresh mango and sticky rice topped with coconut milk (Dessert)
The spring rolls were super crisp, and the dipping sauce was heaven, sweet, floral, nutty all in one. The curry was amazing perfect after a long cold walk, very filling. The dessert had simply the best mango that I have had in America. The service at this restaurant was a dream. This was the best food and service that we experienced in Washington DC.
We finally arrived back home around 6pm (Sunday December 3rd) at around 6pm.
I moved here (FL) from MD and we used to go to DC from time to time…it was like 2-3 hours away.
December 4th, 2006 at 11:15 amIt’s a beautiful place, I’m glad you had a good time!
It was an incredible experience 🙂
I have some relatives in Baltimore MD and they always talked about how close they were to DC.
I can’t wait to see your christmas decorations. We are hopefully getting our tree up in the next day or two 🙂
